1. Comfort
The first thing to look for when renting a photography shooting studio is that it should have amenities that will allow for seamless and comfortable shooting. This is especially important if the photo/video shoot will spend a few hours or days. Make sure to check for the following:
- Fully air-conditioned
- Tables and chairs
- A supply of drinking water or drinking water dispenser
- Private restrooms
- Private makeup and changing area
2. Space
Not all photo/video shoots are the same and require different supplementary tools. Some sessions will do fine with limited space, however, the more equipment, props, costumes, crew members or larger set build you have, you would need to take adequate square footage into account. Ideally, your shooting studio rental should have ample space for the actual shooting, for the storage of items and equipment, and for having a comfortable waiting or break area especially when you have to practice social distancing for the current situation. Metal Bees will certainly be the right choice as all our studios are spacious enough to cater to all mentioned above.
Brick Studio 3,760 sqft
ROM 8 Studio 2,883 sqft
The Raw Studio 4,038 sqft
Besides, if you are planning for vehicle shooting, the access of the vehicle into the venue has to take into consideration. All Metal Bees studios are accessible by car, and perfect for car shooting.
3. The Height of the Ceiling
An ideal shooting studio should have a ceiling height of around or more than 10 feet. This allows for your equipment, set build and/or backdrops to be set up properly. Lower ceilings are also known to cause issues with lighting which is why they need to be avoided. Additionally, higher ceilings allow more space for creative freedom too. All the studios in Metal Bees – The Raw Studio, Brick Studio and ROM 8 Studio have a ceiling height of at least 12 feet and up to 23 feet.
4. Shooting Equipment rental
As you look for a shooting studio in Kuala Lumpur / Selangor, you might notice that some photography studios do provide technical gear. The prices for renting equipment may also vary per venue. Therefore, you can start to identify what equipment you would need and coordinate with the potential event space rental to see if they are able to provide them. In Metal Bees, we are happy to take care of everything for you. In addition to our in-house production equipment, Metal Bees are able to liaise with various rental houses to arrange deliveries and returns.
5. To avoid Daylight
Too much daylight in the studio should be avoided; in fact, some shooting studios are completely windowless. This helps to keep the lighting as consistent as possible no matter what time of the day it is. In Metal Bees, we provide windowless and cyclorama wall studios in The Raw studio.
6. Privacy
A good shooting studio should have a completely close off area that only you and your crew can access and see, especially when you are doing the commercial shoots. To avoid any distractions, it would be a plus if the restrooms are within this area in case you are using them as change rooms. Metal Bees provide different studios with separate entrances and access. All the studios in The Raw Studio, ROM 8 Studio and Brick studio provide private make-up room, restroom, and pantry area.
7. Accessibility
Video/photoshoots are usually team endeavors. Therefore, it is important to choose a location that is easy to find and access via car or public transport. Renting an accessible shooting studio helps everyone to easily arrive at the location on time. Metal Bees Studios are conveniently located 20 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur, the nearest MRT station is the Surian Station which is only a 3-minute drive away.
